The Student (Istabraq Jassim Muhammad) at the Department of Architecture has been
granted a master's degree in Architecture on her thesis titled “External Cultural Spaces in the
Riverfronts”.
The discussion was held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, in the Department of Architectural
Engineering at the University of Technology.
The thesis focused on clarifying the importance of developing riverfronts in general and
cultural external spaces in particular. The research aimed to reveal riverfront development
approaches based on cultural outdoor space values. The categories of cultural, outdoor space
values have been embodied in (spatial, heritage, functional, social, aesthetic, and cultural
values; It included the riverfront development approach (with the ecological-socio-cultural
approach, the social and cultural development approach, the approach to preserving the
historical importance of the cultural outer space, and the approach to enriching the cultural
outer space).
The study concluded by explaining the difference in development approaches based on the
values of cultural outdoor spaces, as they were largely supportive of spatial and heritage
values, followed by social and aesthetic values, then cultural values, and to a lesser extent
functional values.

The discussion was held on Sunday, 3rd of December, 2023, in the Department of Architectural
Engineering at the University of Technology.
The thesis focused on clarifying the role of semiotics in developing passenger terminals to raise the
level of local and Arab airport premises to keep pace with international terminals.
The thesis aimed to provide a knowledge base on the role of semiotics in creating an emotional place
within passenger terminals, how it is applied to reduce the anxiety and tension of passengers inside
the passenger terminals, and the way that the stations could form a spatial identity that enhances the
country’s identity and acquaints visitors with the country’s history and culture.
The study came up with three semiotic dimensions for creating an emotional place in passenger
stations that can be invested at present to develop local and Arab airports to increase the economic
and cultural growth of the country.

Written by sohaib Lecturer Dr. Qais Abdel Hussein and Assistant Lecturer Enas Ali, the teaching staff of the Architecture
Services Lighting and Acoustics subject organized an exhibition in the lobby of the Architectural
Engineering Department where the projects of the applied design of the service lighting system were
displayed.
The third stage students were trained using computer programs to determine a style for the optimal
lighting of the University of Technology buildings in accordance with the standards of international
and local educational buildings, with the aim of activating the adoption of environmental simulation
programs to address lighting as the most prominent environmental issues facing the designer in an
effort to achieve integration between natural lighting and artificial illumination to achieve the
environmental quality of educational spaces and to highlight the role of artificial lighting in the
campus landscape as a whole in addition to its interactive internal courtyards, in order to achieve
aspects of social sustainability. The workshop presented various design models to students to achieve
its goal through specific methodological steps.

Master Thesis Discussion Titled “Strategic Tactics In The Ecology Of Contemporary Urban Agglomeration: Al-Harithiya District As A Case Study
Written by sohaibThe Student ((Mona Muhammad Taqi))) at the Department of Architecture has been granted a
master's degree in Architecture on her thesis titled “Strategic Tactics In The Ecology Of
Contemporary Urban Agglomeration: Al-Harithiya District As A Case Study”
The discussion was held on Tuesday, October 26, 2023,, in the Department of Architectural
Engineering at the University of Technology.
The thesis focused on the concept of urban agglomeration and the analysis of all functional
and morphological aspects to present the most important indicators of regular agglomeration
and to determine the causes of irregular agglomeration witnessed in urban areas.
The research aimed to find the correct specifications and characteristics of agglomeration in
accordance with contemporary urban transformations by adopting the ecological aspect in
urban tactics and developing self-sustainable urban agglomerations to achieve a sustainable
and contemporary urban environment.
.
The study concluded that dynamic agglomeration, using inversion tactics, preserves the
spatial character, that using tactics creates a spatial relationship with the original configuration
of the place, that transformation tactics that are based primarily on increasing the net density
(housing) transform the spaces into blocks, through that, functions in the environment can be
adjusted in a way that preserves their privacy and achieves aspects of sustainability.
