I am an Architect and a multitask Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Sustainable Digital Architecture and Construction, with an experience of over 17 years. I received my PhD Degree in Architecture / Building Information Modelling (BIM) from the Sheffield School of Architecture (SSoA), The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, with a thesis on ‘Development of Conceptual Constructs for Organisational BIM Adoption and their Systematic Application within the UK Architecture Sector’.

My research interest is in Digital Transformation of built environment and Digitalisation of Architectural and Construction projects. I have more than six years of experience researching multidisciplinary areas related to digital transformation and digitalisation from multiple perspectives, including technology, process, and policy perspectives. Across these areas, I research: (a) policy topics and in particular the development of BIM adoption and diffusion, and development of digital transformation policies, and how can they assist researchers, decision-makers, and policy-makers with a better understanding of the BIM adoption process and guide the development of BIM strategies and plan for BIM adoption and diffusion; (b) technical topics such the development of digitally-enabled tools and workflows for improving individual, team, project, and organisational performance; (c) management topics including the development of conceptual constructs, tools and metrics to help understand and improve both the impact of digital innovation (i.e., Building Information Modelling; and Virtual and Augmented Reality) and the dynamics of its adoption and diffusion in organisations and markets.

During my PhD study, I have been invited to deliver/co-teach several lectures/modules:

  • September 2017, Invited Lecturer, I have delivered a lecture about using Drones in BIM 3D photogrammetry to postgraduate masters and PhD students, The Centre for Construction Research & Innovation (CCIR), Teesside University, UK.
  • Sept 2016 – Feb 2017, Group Facilitator, State of Sheffield (SoS)-Global perspective on local issues. The State of Sheffield is a module for all first-year students in the Faculty of Social Sciences, which supports collaborative and interdisciplinary learning for undergraduates and demonstrates the ‘real-world’ nature of social sciences research, The University of Sheffield, UK.
  • Nov 2016 – Feb 2017, Module Facilitator, I have acted as a facilitator, to ask questions, review students’ work, and provide feedback to 27 master’s students of Business Administration (MBA). The session title was “Organisation Problem-Solving Using a System Approach” within MGT 6115 Management Consultancy Module at the Management School, The University of Sheffield, UK.

During my academic career, I have served the following administrative roles:

  • 2004-2005, Director of Administration (Departmental Manager), Dept. of Architecture, University of Technology, Baghdad.
  • 2004-2013, Manager of the Internet Unit, Dept. of Architecture, University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq.
  • 2004-2013, Manager of Computer Labs Unit, Dept. of Architecture, University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq.
  • 2007-2008, and 2009-til now, Member of the Exam Committee, Dept. of Architecture, University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq.
  • 2007-2013, Editorial Secretary of the Iraqi Journal of Architecture, Dept. of Architecture, University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq.
  • 2007-2013, Secretary of the Scientific Committee of the Association of University Lecturers, Baghdad, Iraq.
  • 2019-till now, Section Editor (Editorial Board Member) of the Iraqi Journal of Architecture and Planning (IQJAP), Baghdad, Iraq, 2018 till now.
  • 2019-till now, chair of the E-Learning Committee, Dept. of Architecture, University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq.

More recently, I have been awarded an international recognition in E-learning after succeeding with distinction the Training of Professional Trainers Course (TOT) that was established by IREX, an American Organisation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This recognition is characterised by distinctive standards. Being awarded such prestigious recognition, it acknowledges the fulfilment of the requirements for E-learning, and it distinguishes by its high efficiency in how E-learning is managed.

In addition, I am a member of the following professional organisations:

  • Member in Iraqi Engineers Union.
  • Member in Iraqi Association of University Lecturers.
  • Member in Iraqi Teachers Union.
  • Member in Arabic Engineers union.
