PHD & M.Sc Thesis Discussion in 2018

M.Sc. Thesis Discussion Titled “Gravitas in architecture - characteristics of the act of Gravitas in the form of architectural production”

The Student Zahraa Ahmed Hussein at the Department of Architecture has been granted M.Sc. degree on her thesis titled “ Gravitas  in architecture - characteristics of the act of Gravitas in the form of architectural production”

The study adopted a method based on analysis and synthesis between architectural studies and non architectural studies that explained the concept of the act of (Gravitas).

This thesis aiming at finding and concluding the formal features in the architectural output that expresses both the performance and the purposive characteristics of the act of the gravitas. The reliability of the theoretical framework of the characteristics of the gravitas performance was studied in addition to the relation between the effects on the performance properties of the gravitas of the impressionistic images generated by the purposive of the gravitas in the architectural output.

The role of material, color and details in the form of architectural output according to the gravitas of the performance characteristics of the act of gravitas achieved in the form were also studied.

PhD. Thesis discussion titled “"Digital Exchanges of visualization in Contemporary Architecture"." at the Department of Architecture

The Student (Hossam Jabbar Abbas) at the Department of Architecture has been granted a Ph.D. degree on his thesis titled ““Digital Exchanges of visualization in Contemporary Architecture "  .

The thesis is based on the principle of the adoption of architecture as a comprehensible system. Therefore, the purpose of the thesis is to find a code system for a system based on the relationship between the equations of architecture within secrets that may interest the receiver through the MRD program.

Four models of the conceptual framework for the visualization of architectural output were submitted by introducing the necessary knowledge concerning the theory of communication .Aiming to understand architecture and the reliability structure in adapting architecture in addition to the attractive structure of the acceptability of architecture.

The Department of Architecture bestows a Master's Degree in urban consolidation

The Department of Architecture at the University of Technology awarded the Master's Degree to Mustafa Ali Medalloul for his thesis entitled "urban consolidation ".

The discussion was attended by the assistant head of the department for scientific affairs and postgraduate studies. Dr. Basim Hassan Hashem and a group of lectures academic and postgraduate students.

The researcher discussed the The concept of urban integration In many of the proposals linking the existing and the new system, the process of creating a new interactive urban environment integrated with the existing fabric. , The research problem was related to (lack of a comprehensive theoretical framework for the characteristics and mechanisms of integration of the new and existing urban system). The importance of the research is to explore the ways and mechanisms adopted in the international development projects with the aim of integrating them with the surrounding context, and to develop a model for the mechanisms of integrating the new urban system and re-evaluating the urban development projects in the city of Baghdad.

The Department of Architecture at the University of Technology has been given the Master's of degree for postgraduate a student “ Shahad Raad Hameed “  about th thesis entitled  ((  Astonishing Structural structures in contemporary Architecture ))

That held at the discussion hall of department , the searcher have been focused  ( Lack of studies that raise the relationship between the structural structure and dazzling character in architecture) After discussing a number of architectural and non-architectural studies Which showed that the excellence of architecture is linked to the sources and mechanisms of innovation in the shape from the acquisition of the structural system to a Non-traditional form that change the structural system from a Pure Structural construction system Based only on the physical aspects and mathematical operation to a system of art that translate the level of intellectual innovation of the designer But there is no clear study deals with Formal generation formulas for dazzling construction structures and from it the research problem emerged which is (Lack of comprehensive studies of the strategies and mechanisms and the elements of generating structures of dazzling origin in contemporary architecture) and The target is determined By (constructing a theoretical framework describing the generation forms formula of dazzling construction structures in contemporary architecture ) .

The searcher have been focused (The need for a comprehensive knowledge framework to manage the dimensions (economic, social and urban) affecting the activation of urban cultural spaces locally (Urban, Economic and Social) . The research was based on a basic hypothesis that: "Cultural space is activated through the management of effective indicators for both urban and remote dimensions. Economic and social dimension), " This is within the methodology of the research prepared in the extraction of indicators for the management of dimensions (urban, social, economic) affecting the activation of the urban cultural space and extract the most important indicators for the management of each dimension, and study and extract solutions from global experiences to clarify their impact on the activation of cultural spaces and the most important strategies This process is applied in the application of measurement in the practical study of the selected area, namely the area of ((Mutanabi Street and cultural spaces in the surrounding area within the center of the old Rusafa))

The Department of Architecture at the University of Technology has been given the Master's of degree for postgraduate a student “  Asmaa Omar Basheer  “  about the thesis entitled  (( Livable neighborhoods Study of Pedestrian Friendly Environment Vitality  which has held at the discussion hall of department .

The searcher has been focused of studying the vital and pedestrian friendly environment, but an issue emerged that there is (a gap about vitality of the pedestrian friendly environment in livable neighborhoods). So the thesis focused on pinning the important strategies, treatments and characteristics that included (designing pedestrian walking paths, increasing housing populations, energizing existing neighborhoods, diverse use, increasing housing choices, the sense of neighborhoods, increasing social interactions, increasing the neighborhood quality). And knowing how impactful it is to the livable neighborhood.

Research hypothesis (The pedestrian friendly environment vitality is achieved through a set of strategies, treatments and characteristics) .

The Department of Architecture at the University of Technology has been given the Master's of degree for postgraduate a student “ Mohammed Kareem Salman “  about the thesis entitled  ((  Formal transformations in urban centers which has held at the discussion hall of department .

The searcher have been focused Formal transformations in urban centers, has many dimensions in the development and integration of the urban structure of these centers. Therefore, the study dealt with many of the proposals and studies on urban centers and theories of its composition as well as transformations that occur within the centers and their distances and manifestations and causes, it was noted that these changes occur in a way that lacks the correct diagnosis and what is the reason behind the occurrence of these transformations. Thus, the research reached its cognitive problem, which revolves around the problems of determining the components of an integrated urban structure for urban centers, this requires research into its formal transformations .for that, the main objective of the research (Achieving a comprehensive theoretical framework on urban centers, their components and their transformations) The rest of the research objectives focused on identifying the factors influencing the achievement of an integrated urban structure and extracting the most important elements that are reflected in these formal transformations .

The Department of Architecture at the University of Technology has been given the Master's degree for postgraduate a student “ Aws M. Salman about the thesis entitled  ((  the Impact of Urban Geometry on Thermal Comfort

Microclimate Improvement Strategies - case study )) ,  which has held at the discussion hall of department .

The study has been focused aim of this study is to investigate the impact of urban patterns in Baghdad City, which are differ in their geometry and vegetation covered, on the microclimate conditions and human thermal comfort. In addition, the study tries to evaluate the effects of microclimate improvement strategies on micro-climatic conditions and thermal comfort in these patterns at the scale of pedestrian level.

The present study methodology was depended on two steps: the first one deal with a comprehensive study of the Land Surface Temperature (LST) variations in Baghdad City and it's relation to the land surface covered, urban patterns existed, population densities and land uses. That helped to assess the impact of urban patterns existed on LST and local climate conditions. On the basis of LST result, areas for investigation were selected. Second, the selected areas are investigated on the base of their effect on microclimate conditions and thermal comfort, and how microclimate improvement strategies can effect on these areas at the scale of pedestrian level.
